All music majors include:

• MUS-111 Basic Musicianship I
• MUS-112 Basic Musicianship II
• MUS-120 Introduction to Music Literature
• MUS-211 Basic Musicianship III
• MUS-212 Basic Musicianship IV
• MUS-220 World Music I
• MUS-221 Music History I
• MUS-320 Music History II
• MUS-321 Music History III
• MUS-352 Basic Conducting
• two credits of performance topics

Candidates for the B.M. degree enroll in additional courses consistent with their major.

All performance majors must include:

• a half recital in the junior year,
• a full recital in the senior year, and
• additional courses according to their performance field as outlined below.

All students performing recitals must receive approval from the faculty approximately one month before the recital date.

A piano performance major must include:

• MUS-421 History & Literature of the Instrument
• MUS-451 Piano Pedagogy
• MUS-564 Advanced Collaborative Piano
• MUS-568 Introduction to Organ and Harpsichord
• eight credits of music electives with at least six of the eight numbered between 300 and 499, and
• at least 24 credits of piano performance studies.

Additional Information:

Junior and senior piano performance majors may accompany in lieu of participating in a large ensemble. Students must accompany for two senior recitals or three junior recitals during the same term. Permission for exercising this option must be obtained in advance and in writing from the department chair.
