Medieval and Early Modern Studies Minor


Students will take 20 credits in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Students must select courses from at least three disciplines; at least 12 credits shall be in courses numbered 200 or greater.

Required Course: (2 credits)


  • MEM-201 Symposium in Medieval and Early Modern Studies
  • Students must also submit a portfolio along with a public Furman Engaged presentation that demonstrates the connections between the courses and disciplines contributing to their minor requirements.

And 18 credits from courses in at least three of the following disciplines:

Note:


Several of the above-listed courses (“when relevant topic”) may count toward the minor depending on the specific topic being covered that semester. Likewise, 4 credits of Independent Study, Independent Research, and Directed Independent Study (Courses numbered 501, 502, and 504) may be used as minor courses with approval of the oversight committee. Furthermore, directed summer research experiences (TFA-002) may be considered for use as electives with approval, along with the submission of a substantive research paper to be reviewed by the committee. Other courses, such as first year seminars and study away programs, may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
